This is a Four Stopped Chaser Dragonfly encased in resin, scientifically known as (Libellula quadrimaculata) Adult dragonflies are recognized by their large, multifaceted compound eyes, two pairs of strong, transparent wings, and an elongated body. Their wings are held flat, horizontal to their body during rest and flight. Most dragonflies live in tropical regions near wetlands, which is needed for egg laying.
Fossils of very large dragonfly-like insects, from around 325 million years ago have been found. These are sometimes called griffin flies, and had wingspans up to about 30 inches.
Lucite block measures approximately 3 inches square.
As with all real insects in resin, size, coloration and positioning can vary slightly.
